2017 Jeep Renegade vs 2017 Chevrolet Trax near Baker City, OR

Subcompact crossover SUV's are one of the fastest growing segments of the consumer-car industry, so the class can be crowded and confusing to navigate. Two of our favorite standouts for 2017 are the 2017 Jeep Renegade, an off-road ready and incredibly versatile vehicle, and the 2017 Chevrolet Trax, an affordable and easy-to-drive option. With the most up-to-date technology and plenty of fun and exciting features, the 2017 subcompact SUV class is shaping up to be an exciting and innovative segment!

2017 Jeep Renegade Power & Handling

The 2017 Jeep Renegade offers a standard turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, more than enough power to take this sporty-SUV places your old car could only dream of! The top two trims, including the off-road enhanced Trailhawk, offer a larger, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Every Renegade gets the option of an all-wheel or four-wheel drivetrain except for the Trailhawk, which comes with an all-wheel drivetrain standard. The Trailhawk also features other exclusive features, like a disconnecting rear axle and a power take off unit. The Jeep-exclusive Selec-Terrain system adds a Trailhawk exclusive Rock mode to the already impressive line-up of drive modes; Mud, Snow, Sand and Auto. The well-equipped 2017 Jeep Renegade is ready for adventure, are you?

2017 Chevrolet Trax Power & Handling

The 2017 Chevrolet Trax is a sporty SUV, powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. The power numbers don't quite reach the base offering for the Renegade, making this engine feel underwhelming by comparison. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and is offered in either all-wheel or front-wheel drive. The Trax will take you where you need to go, and can offer some exciting handling while doing so, but is not rated for off-road travel or towing, limiting its use to on-road commuters.

2017 Jeep Renegade Features & Design

Offering four distinct trim levels and a roomy, intuitively designed cabin, the 2017 Jeep Renegade features modern technology and the ruggedly refined touches you expect from a Jeep. The base Sport trim is a well-equipped 4x4, with keyless entry systems, push-button ignition, power locks and windows, a driver-infotainment display and a USB-compatible four-speaker sound system. The Latitude trim adds high-tech features like voice-command integration systems, smartphone integration, a rearview camera and a 5-inch touchscreen display. The top luxury trim is the Limited, which adds an upgraded infotainment display and luxe leather upholstery. If you're looking to harness the off-road abilities of the Renegade, then you'll want a Trailhawk, designed with a raised suspension and off-road accessories like all-terrain tires, underbody protection plates and tow hooks.

2017 Chevrolet Trax Features & Design

The 2017 Chevrolet Trax comes in three trim levels, which each offering the option for front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The LS is the base trim, with 16-inch steel wheels, power accessories, a rear cargo cover and the Chevrolet MyLink Interface, which allows you to access smartphone apps. The LT trim upgrades the Trax with roof rails, heated outside mirrors and upgraded cloth upholstery. Available packages can be added to allow access to features like a Bose audio system, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition systems and safety systems. The final trim for the Trax is the Premier, which gets larger, 18-inch alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and heated front seats. The Trax is a solid subcompact SUV, with a reliable set of features.

Conclusions

When you're comparing two subcompact crossover SUVs, the 2017 Jeep Renegade and the 2017 Chevrolet Trax are certainly at the top of the list. Both have exciting features, powerful engines and unique standard safety features like stability and traction controls, antilock brakes and cabin-cushioning airbags.  Hill-start assistance is standard on all Renegade trims, while hill-descent control is offered on the off-road Trailhawk. The 2017 SUV segment has tons of competition, but these sensational vehicles certainly stand out!
