2017 Jeep  Renegade at Legacy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for La Grande, OR

The Jeep Renegade is a perfect example of how Jeep keeps a pulse on the SUV buyer's needs. While many Jeep fans love the classic Wrangler and are enamored with the idea of an open-air SUV capable of scaling rugged terrain, the reality is that many of those fans need a vehicle that is more practical and economical for the daily grind. Enter the Jeep Renegade. It is a small SUV that offers an exceptional ride on the highway and great gas mileage, while also offering off-road utility and open-air freedom with its available "My Sky" removeable roof panels. New for 2017, all Jeep Renegade models now come with keyless entry and automatic high beams.

Under the Renegade's Hood

Two engine sizes are offered for the Jeep Renegade. The first engine, which is standard in the first three trims, is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, combined with a six-speed manual transmission. This engine produces 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The next engine, which is available in all trim levels, is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission pairs with this engine. All trims have the option to step up to four-wheel drive, although the Trailhawk and Deserthawk come only with four-wheel drive. Jeep's Selec-Terrain system works in conjunction with the four-wheel drive system, allowing the driver to select four terrain modes, auto, snow, sand or mud. For the extreme off-roader, the Trailhawk is up to task. It has a more advanced 4WD system that has low-speed gearing and an additional Rock setting in the Selec-Terrain system. When properly equipped, a Renegade with the 2.4-liter engine and four-wheel drive can tow up to 2,000 pounds. Finally, the Jeep Renegade's fuel economy ranges between 24-27 mpg combined depending on the powertrain.

Design of Jeep  Renegade

For a small crossover SUV, the 2017 Renegade is fairly tall and wide, offering lots of headroom and ample seating for three passengers in the rear. The Renegade has 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space and expands to 50.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The entry level Renegade offers standard features such as: all-season tires, premium cloth seating, power windows/locks, keyless ignition, a four-speaker sound system, a 12-volt power outlet, and more. Choose the Power and Air Group package and you can add cruise control, heated, power-adjustable outside mirrors, and A/C. Moving up the trim levels, you will find a host of convenience, luxury, tech and style features such as leather upholstery, power adjustable front seats, a 5-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect infotainment system, a rearview camera, a six-speaker audio system, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and more. And for the ultimate panoramic view, add the "My Sky" removable roof panels to your Renegade, available in a manually removable option or a power retractable/removable option.
